In 2018, Lake Superior Tall Ships organized and sponsored a new event in Bayfield. For the 1st Annual Bayfield Classic Boat &Schooner Rendezvous, seven unique vessels visited the city on the weekend after Labor Day in conjunction with other nautical themed events and demonstrations. Participating organizations in 2018 included LSTS, the Bayfield Heritage Association, the Bayfield Carnegie Library, the Bayfield Coast Guard Station, the Bayfield Sea Scout Ship 336 and the Bayfield Maritime Museum.
For 2019, we are inviting more boats, more organizations and planning more activities for this three-day event.
On Friday we will invite local students to the docks and museums to learn about our maritime history. Then a Meet and Greet for all participating boats, organizations and sponsors on Friday evening.
Saturday’s activities include viewing vessel at various locations around Bayfield including the city dock, the maritime museum and the fishing docks. We hope to have at musical performances in the morning, afternoon and evening (and maybe a little swashbuckling). The Bayfield Coast Guard Station will demonstrate life-saving skills. We intend to have guest speakers and nautical demonstrations in the pavilion, the city dock and museums The highlight of the event will be the boat parade at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
Sundays activities may include a Mariners’ Worship Service.
