Sail to the Festival of Sail - Sold Out

  • Lake Superior Tall Ships, Inc., Pikes Bay Marina, Slip 202 84190 Pikes Bay Road, Slip 202 Bayfield, WI, 54814 United States (map)

Join us on a three day sail from Bayfield, WI to Two Harbors, MN where the Abbey Road will participate in the 2022 Festival of Sail.

Under the command of a licensed captain, trainees will actively participate in the operation of the ship. They will live, cook, eat and sleep on board the Abbey Road while exploring Lake Superior. By the end of a voyage they will know the fundamentals of how to sail a 60' schooner.

Everyone is involved in planning the passage. The captain will review navigation procedures, use of charts, dead reckoning, radar, and GPS in an easy to understand and relaxed environment. This exciting adventure covers about 100 nautical miles (weather depending) with stops at several islands such as Raspberry, Rocky, Sand and Devils, before crossing to Two Harbors.

We have room for 6 trainees over the age of 13, who are willing to stand watch, tend the sails, and steer a steady course as we transit Lake Superior to the distant shore. We highly recommend you have some prior sailing experience to prepare for this long-distance cruise.

You may board the Abbey Road at Pike's Bay Marina any time after 6pm on July 31st, and we will depart the next day after sleeping in the marina.

We will spend two days sailing in the Apostle Islands and anchor at night in the shelter of the islands. We plan to cross the big lake to the North Shore on August 3rd and arrive in Two Harbors in the afternoon.

You are welcome to spend one last night on Abbey Road after we tie up at the festival pier, but you will need to disembark on the morning of August 4th before the Parade of Sail.

You will need to arrange your own transportation to Bayfield and from Two Harbors
