Join us at the Bayfield Blessing of the Fleet 2024

  • Lake Superior Tall Ships, Inc., Pikes Bay Marina, Slip 202 (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

History comes to life with the traditional Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., as commercial fishing boats, tugs, powerboats, sailboats, excursion crafts, kayaks, and rowboats parade through Bayfield’s City Harbor. As they pass by the tip of the pier, clergy from the Apostle Islands community will grant each vessel a blessing for safe passage and a prosperous season on Lake Superior.

The Abbey Road and Zeeto are planning to participate in the ecumenical service and Blessing Ceremony. The service begins at 1:00 p.m. in Memorial Park. The Abbey Road and Zeeto will be at the City Dock before and after the ceremony, so please stop by and say Hi!

2024 Offshore Adventure

2024 Offshore Adventure

  • Lake Superior Tall Ships, Inc., Pikes Bay Marina, Slip 202 (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Offshore Adventures is a six-day sailing trip designed to create more competent, confident sailors. Improve your sailing skills and experience night sailing, standing watches and sailing offshore in varying weather conditions.

Under the command of a licensed captain, six trainees will actively participate in the operation of the ship. They will live, cook, eat and sleep on board the Abbey Road while exploring Lake Superior. By the end of a voyage they will know the fundamentals of how to sail a 60' schooner.

Everyone is involved in planning the passage. The captain will review navigation procedures, use of charts, dead reckoning, radar, and GPS in an easy to understand and relaxed environment. This exciting adventure covers over 200 nautical miles (weather depending) with destinations such as Isle Royale National Park, the Keweenaw Peninsula, and/or Grand Marais, MN.

We have room for 6 trainees over the age of 18, (or 13 and over accompanied by a parent or guardian) who are willing to stand watch, tend the sails, and steer by the stars as we transit Lake Superior overnight and explore distant shores. We recommend that you have some prior sailing experience to prepare for this long-distance cruise.

You may board the Abbey Road any time after 7 pm the night before the trip, and we may depart that evening if conditions are favorable. We expect to be back in Bayfield before 4 pm on the last day

2021 Annual Pirates' Ball Fundraiser - Postponed

Given the recent news from the Bayfield County Health Department that COVID-19 cases are again on an upward trajectory in our region, that disease activity remains high due to our low population, and that outbreaks are being detected after social events, music festivals, and sporting events, the LSTS board members unanimously voted to postpone the 2021 Pirates' Ball until this storm passes and we can hold our gala event without putting anybody at risk. 2021 Annual Classic Boat & Schooner Rendezvous

We have been cautiously making plans for the 2021 Classic Boat & Schooner Rendezvous. As the Bayfield Festival of Arts will be in Memorial Park the same weekend, we are not planning anything elaborate for the event, other than having interesting and unique boats at the City Dock for viewing, and the boat parade at 1pm on September 11th.

There is no admission fee to walk the docks.

We have postponed our Pirates’ Ball FUNdraiser until we can determine it is safe for indoor events!
